Con Alan, echaré de menos sus visitas sorpresa para charlar un rato - With Alan, I will miss his non expected visits to chat for a while.

Parece mentira que este día haya llegado.
Una cosa es ver como cada semana alguien se va, a veces mas conocidos y otras veces menos, y otra cosa es tener que ser tú el que da el discurso de despedida.
Esta ha sido una experiencia única. Mi principal objetivo de venir a Estados Unidos era mejorar mi inglés, por lo que ha sido a lo que mas esfuerzo le he dedicado.
Pero el venir a un país extranjero a aprender su idioma te da la oportunidad de conocer su gente y su cultura y de romper estereotipos (o confirmarlos :-p).

Si ese país es Estados Unidos y además vas a una escuela de idiomas, conoces gente de lugares como Alemania, Arabia Saudí, Chile, Colombia, Corea, Ecuador, Francia, Hong Kong, Italia, Japón, Méjico, Nicaragua, Noruega, Perú, Tailandia, Taiwán, Turquía, Venezuela,... (no se si me dejo algun país) lo que enriquece mucho más la experiencia.

EF, con su gran equipo de profesores, une en la pequeña ciudad de Olympia a personas de todo el mundo y nos hace convivir, nos hace sentir que este es nuestro hogar, aunque solo lo vaya a ser por algunos meses.

Por todo esto, siento que aunque hoy haya sido el último día en EF no es un día triste, porque ahora tengo grandes recuerdos de todo lo que he vivido aquí. Tengo otra cosa, grandes amigos de diferentes partes del mundo a los que podre visitar (y me podrán visitar) y así "revivir" nuestras aventuras en Estados Unidos.

ENGLISH:

I can´t believe this day has finally come. I was already used to see people leaving every week and I didn´t realize that my last day in EF and my Departure Ceremony Speech were coming.
This has been the time of my life. My target was to improve my English so I did my best to achieve it. Anyway, coming to a foreing country gives you more than just learning its language. It gives you the chance to meet its culture and the knowledge to break stereotypes (or confirm them :-P).
If that country is the Unites States of America and you are in a language school then you can meet people from so many different countries such as Germany, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Colombia, Korea, Ecuador, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Norwey, Peru, Tailand, Taiwan, Turkey, Venezuela... (I hope not to forget anyone) that makes the experience even better.
EF with its wonderful and professional staff gathers people from all over the world in the small city of Olympia and makes us live together, feeling at home although we know it is going to be just for a few months.
All I wrote above gives me reasons not to feel sad about my last day at EF. Now I have so many memories of the last five months... and what is much better, I have really good friends from different countries to visit (they can visit me as well :D) and live again our adventure in "The land of opportunities"

Visita a Portland - Oregon

El sabado Kristin y yo pasamos el dia en Portland, ciudad del estado de Oregon.
En Estados Unidos cada estado tiene un % de impuestos diferente (como si nosotros pagasemos un IVA diferente en cada CCAA) y este estado se caracteriza porque su % es CERO.
Esta ciudad es muy pero que muy visitada con el objetivo de comprar ordenadores, iPods, etc.
Tambien es conocida como "La Ciudad de las Rosas". Se ve que el clima de la ciudad es el idoneo para cultivar rosas asi que durante mas de cien anyos han ido proliferando los jardines de rosas en la ciudad.
Ahora en junio se celebra el "Festival de la Rosa", con diferentes actividades y desfiles. Este anyo es el centenario del festival. Kristin y yo estuvimos en un desfile durante un rato, pero nos tuvimos que ir para coger el autobus de vuelta :-)

Es el jardin de rosas publico mas antiguo de Estados Unidos.

ENGLISH:
Last Saturday Kristin and I spent the day in Portland, Oregon.
Oregon is a tax-free state so a lot of people go there to buy stuff such as laptops, iPods, etc.
Portland is also known as "The City of Roses". Its climate is perfect for growing roses so rose gardens are pretty common in the city.
Now, in June, is celebrated the "Portland Rose Festival" that has been held for just 100 years. During theses days there are different events and parades in the streets of the city. Krintin and I could enjoy a parade for a while but we had to leave and go to catch the bus to come back to Olympia :-)

Barbacoa en casa de los Shomshors

El viernes por la noche hubo la ultima fiesta en casa de los Shomshors.
Esta vez gracias al buen tiempo pudimos hacer una barbacoa en el jardin, al mas puro estilo americano. Hubo hoguera en la que asamos "nubes" (como en las pelis!) para comerlas con chocolate y galletas (muy muy dulce... mmm :-p). La musica en directo fue ofrecida por Rick, que es un estudiante de Evergreen amigo de Kristin.
A la vez sirvio para despedir a Mario, que se ha ido a trabajar un par de meses a EF-California. Sophie se ha ido con el, pero con ella estuve durante el fin de semana.
Ellos son unas de las personas especiales que he tenido la oportunidad de conocer aqui. A Sophie la volvere a ver en Septiembre, cuando Jose y yo vayamos a Munich, y a Mario... pues no se, pero un viajecito a Colombia caera fijo!

ENGLISH:
On Friday night was the last Shomshors' party.
The weather was warm enough to make a barbecue in the yard.
It was like an American movie. We toasted some marshmallows over the campfire and we ate them with chocolate and crackers (very very sweet... I love it!!!). We had alived music played by Rick, the Kristin's friend who is an Evergreen Student.
That day was the last one with Mario because he's gone to an intership at EF-California. Sophie has gone with him but I spent time with her during the rest of the weekend.
They are two of the most special people that I have met at EF. I am eager to see Sophie next September when I go to Munich with Jose. About Mario... I don't know when the next time I see him will be but someday I will go to Colombia, for sure!!

Ultima clase de Escrima

Cuidado, cuidado! Que llego con un super entrenamiento de 5 meses en Escrima.
Algunos de vosotros ya sabeis que es Escrima (Jose, Xavi, Elena...)
Es un arte marcial originario de Filipinas que se practica con uno o dos palos y se basa en defensa personal.
En Barcelona, Jose, Xavi, Elena, Uri y yo lo estuvimos practicando durante un tiempo asi que cuando vi que aqui habia clases los viernes por la manyana me apunte. Es un estilo un poco diferente al que practicamos en Barcelona pero con la misma filosofia.
El caso es que el viernes pasado fue la ultima clase asi que me hice una foto con el profe...
Y el diploma es chulo, eh!!

ENGLISH:
My family must be ready to welcome a martial art expert... me!!! :-)
In January I started to attend Escrima classes at the gym of The Evergreen State College, every Friday morning.
It is a Filipino martial art practiced with one or two sticks and the goal is to get the ability of self-defense.
I used to practice Escrima in Barcelona with Jose, my sister Elena, my brother in law Xavi and my friend Uri so when I saw it at Evergreen I enrolled in the activity. The style I practiced here is a little different from the one we practiced in Barcelona, although the main idea is the same.
Last Friday was my last class so I took a picture of me with my teacher...
The certificate is also really cool!!! Isn't it???

Merienda en casa de Joyce

Teniamos una merienda pendiente en casa de Joyce desde hacia tiempo. El jueves pasado aprovechamos el buen tiempo ya que ya nos quedaba poco en Olympia a Mario y a mi para ir a su casa y disfrutar de su jardin.
Joyce es una de las profesoras que he tenido aqui, muy muy maja.
En la foto tambien esta su hija, Evelun, de 6 anyos. Muy guapa e inteligente. Perfecta para el Brian... lastima que esten un poco lejos el uno del otro... :-p

ENGLISH:
Joyce wanted to show Mario and me her house. Last Thursday the weather was so nice that we skip Culture Series class and went there to enjoy her garden.
Evelyn, Joyce's daughter, was with us. She is really cute and looks very smart. She is just perfect for my nephew Brian :-) The only problem is that they are a little far each other... what a pity!

Olympic National Forest

Ese lunes era "Memorial Day", festivo en Estados Unidos, por lo que no teniamos clase.
Kristin (Noruega), Mauriusz (Polonia) y yo aprovechamos para ir a caminar por el Olympic National Forest, que era un lugar que queria visitar antes de volverme para casita.
Al dia siguiente no tenia agujetas, pero el durante el resto de la semana estuve un poco hecha polvo. La edad ya no perdona! je, je...











ENGLISH:
On Monday, May 28th was "Memorial Day", a holiday in the United States, so we didn't have class.
Kristin (Norway), Mauriusz (Poland) and I went hiking to the Olympic National Forest. It was a place I wanted to visit before going back home.
Next day I was ok but the rest of the week I had a lot of pain in my legs. Am I getting old??? :-P

Primero de todo perdon por el retraso en colgar estas fotos pero supongo que es mejor tarde que nunca :-)

Bueno, a por faena!

Os quiero presentar a nuestros "amigos" mapaches.

Esta foto esta tomada en Northwest Trek Park, un tipo de zoo "abierto" en que hay tanto pequenyos animales como mapaches, castores, mofetas, etc. como animales mas salvajes tipo tigres, osos, bisontes, ciervos, etc.

A lo que iba, que queria aprovechar esta ocasion para hablaros un poco de los mapaches.

En esta foto el mapache esta en un zoo pero este suele ser una visita no deseada en los jardines de las casas americanas. A veces incluso entran en las casas en busca de comida (en la basura), como por ejemplo en mi casa, que aprovechan las puertas para los gatos para colarse dentro.

No se que os parecera a vosotros, pero os puedo que el dia que estabamos desayunando y vimos un mapache dentro de casa dirigiendose a la cocina nos alteramos un poquito... :-p

Tambien es muy comun ver por las calles ardillas, que son mucho mas cucas.

En las otras fotos el zoo teneis unos ciervos (alces, para ser mas exactos) que si podeis ampliar la foto vereis que uno nos esta sacando la lengua (je, je) y bisontes con otro animalillo que no estoy segura de si es un tipo de ciervo.

Ese dia, despues del zoo fuimos al Mount Rainier National Park. No lo pudimos disfrutar del todo porque se nublaba todo el rato y hacia viento frio. Esta es la mejor foto del pico que tengo... Cuando llegamos a la cascada el tiempo estaba un poco mejor, para llegar tuvimos que caminar por nieve!

En la foto estoy con Ohm (Tailandia) y Monica (Colombia), que es mi nueva companyera de habitacion.

Aunque no esta en la foto, mi "madre" vino con nosotras y nos hizo de guia turistica durante este dia. Es muy maja!

ENGLISH:

First of all I want to say that I apologize for having you for so long without new pictures but now I am here and that is the most important :-)

I want to make use of this trip to the Northwest Trek Park to introduce you our "friends" the raccoons. Raccoons are the unwelcome guests in the american yards and houses, looking for something to eat (usually garbage). They are very clever, since they use the cat doors to go inside my house. One day we were having breakfast and one raccoon came over and went towards the garbage bin in the kitchen!!

The squirrels that are usually playing in the street are much nicer :-P

The Northwest Trek Park is a wildlife park (kind of zoo) where we could enjoy other small animals such as beavers or skunks and other big and wild ones suchs as tigers, bears, bison, moose or deer.
In the pictures above there are some bison with an animal that I think it must be a kind of deer and a couple of moose. One of the moose is making fun of us, with its tonge outside ;-)
After visiting the zoo, we went to the Mount Rainier National Park. We couldn't enjoy it at all because the weather wasn't very nice. There were some clouds and it was windy so we took some pictures of the peak quickly and came back inside the car. This is the best picture I get...

When we arrived to the waterfall it was sunnier and warmer.

We could take this beautiful picture with the cascade behind Ohm (Tailand), me and Monica (Colombia), who is my new roommate.

Although my host mother is not in any picture, she was with us all the day long and she was our tourist guide. She is so nice!
